Not sure about you, but my walls are littered with photos of both my children. I looove having unique moments captured of my two children. So as soon as I set foot in Abu Dhabi I started my search for the perfect photographer who could capture those most classic moments. Not soon after I meet Dahlia an up and coming photographer in Abu Dhabi. She has an amazing way around a camera creating the most artist photos. She has the ability to catch the split second gleam in the eye of a groom or that most tender moment of a newborn. She is definitely an ambitious and creative Mompreneur!
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Having my own business at the age of 24! My three and a half year old daughter Elena was the main reason I started photography. I wanted to immortalize every milestone from the moment I laid my eyes on her.
How do you stay connected through social media?
I am connected through Facebook and Instagram. It is where I share my work and bits of my personal life with my followers. Social media has also allowed me to meet new people and build personal relationships with others in Abu Dhabi. Each morning I check my Facebook feed and then upload my daily updates and photos on Facebook, then I check The National news website for updates about the country. For entertainment, I watch online series (can’t get enough from Scandal), and, of course, a daily dose of Huda Beauty!
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Fashion illustration. I have studied a bit of illustration in University. Artists such as Shamekh Bluwi and Hayden Williams inspire me everyday.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
It takes a lot of time management and scheduling. I try my best to book my sessions while my daughter is at school and my husband is at work. My family always comes first.
Who is your hero and how have they helped make you who you are today?
My family is a huge support. My husband is the backbone of my entire being (and my worst critic) and Elena shows me beauty in everything. I continue to learn from them both everyday.
What are your top 3 favorite people/places/things in Abu Dhabi?
My favorite person is my friend Anushka; a cup of tea with her can cheer me up anytime. My favorite place is home. And my favorite thing is my camera!
What is your goal for retirement?
Do you have any advice for artists in Abu Dhabi?
Have courage and follow your heart. Do what you love and you will succeed. Never worry about what your competitors are doing because this will make you a follower not a leader.
How did you get started here in the UAE?
At first I started photographing my daughter, friends, and relatives. Everyone loved the results. I studied hard and took many courses, as I am an advertising student and not photography. When I had enough confidence to take on clients I launched my page and started my business.
What challenges have you had to overcome and how?
My biggest challenge was establishing a big network. I worked really hard on building personal relationships with all my clients. Many of them even became friends!
What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
